2,000 parcel lockers installed across Denmark

PostNord and Swipbox have started with the rollout of an extra 2,000 parcel lockers across Denmark. Over the next six months, the Nærboks lockers will be installed, after which Danish consumers can pick up their parcels 24/7.

The rollout follows after a successful pilot in Kolding and Sonderborg. Now, the whole country will be introduced to the Nærboks parcel lockers from PostNord and Swipbox. “By placing the parcel lockers close to where the Danes are and live, Nærboks will set new standards for how easy and convenient parcel delivery can be. They are open day and night – exactly when the end user will use it”, Peter Kjær Jensen, CEO of PostNord Denmark, says.

No electricity or internet connection needed

The parcel lockers are placed strategically, so most consumers can find one nearby. The lockers also require no electricity or internet connection, which makes them easy to set up. The idea behind Nærboks is that all logistics provider can deliver parcels in a parcel locker. Right now, in addition to PostNord, DHL also delivers parcels and more carriers will be joining soon.

Increased capacity to handle high number of parcels

Ecommere in Denmark continues to grow fast. This year, a growth of almost 13 percent is expected, which means the online retail industry will become worth 17.3 billion euros at the end of the year. This growth means an increased capacity is needed to handle the high number of parcels Danish consumers order online.

10,000 lockers across Denmark

Postnord and SwipBox say installing 2,000 parcel lockers is just the beginning. They want to make the network increasingly dense until 10,000 of these lockers have been installed all over Denmark.
