Active Ants opens distribution center in Belgium

Active Ants, an e-fulfillment company from the Netherlands, has opened its first distribution center in Belgium. The site is located in Willebroek, a town between Antwerp and Brussels. The Bpost subsidiary is now eying international expansion.

Active Ants, founded in the Netherlands in 2010, got acquired by the Belgian postal service Bpost in 2018. In February of this year, managing partner Jeroen Dekker told Ecommerce News Europe that his company wants to expand across Europe.

Active Ants’ new site is 10,000m² big

A new distribution center, which is 10,000 square meters big, in Belgium will help with these plans to offer more ecommerce fulfillment in Europe. The e-fulfillment center has the same set-up as the one Bpost and Active Ants opened in the Dutch city of Roosendaal last winter. On the first of July, the first (test) package was packed by an Active Ants employee and sorted by a robot.

This means Active Ants can now also serve the Belgian market, from Belgium.

Custom print option

“The latest Autostore robots, the AMR carrier-ants, and the packing machines are running at full speed”, Active Ants says. “A unique feature is the custom print option that enables every online shop to have its own design printed on the packaging.”

The company’s packing machine cuts right-fit boxes for each package, so large boxes filled with a lot of air are not sent unnecessarily. And by partnering with Bpost, Active Ants can make use of all last-mile solutions the postal company has to offer.
