Aldi Nord tests delivery service in Spain and Portugal

Aldi Nord is expanding its ecommerce division. The German discounter is currently testing a delivery service in Spain and Portugal. Aldi is still not fully present in the ecommerce division, as neither Aldi Nord nor Aldi Süd deliver groceries. But that’s about to change.

The northern partner of the German discounter group is testing an online offer in Spain and Portugal, Lebensmittelzeitung writes. For the delivery service, Aldi Nord has teamed up with Glovo, an on-demand delivery startup from Barcelona.

Grocery delivery after just 30 minutes

Five selected supermarkets in Barcelona and Lisbon will take place in this experiment, in which customers will be able to order groceries online and have them delivered to their homes. Orders are processed via the Glovo app. And these orders should be delivered to the customer after just 30 minutes.

Ecommerce combined with its branch network

“Last-mile delivery, especially the delivery of groceries, has developed an exciting momentum in recent months”,  Valentin Muñoz, CEO of Aldi Spain, explains. “At the same time, we are combining the rapidly growing area of ​​ecommerce with one of our greatest strengths, the Aldi branch network.”

By partnering up with Glovo and offering a grocery delivery service to its customers, the discounter wants to live up to its claim to “provide people with what they need for their daily life at all times and everywhere”.
