Amazon in Europe welcomes 1,461 new sellers per day

Amazon in Europe has welcomed 115,453 new sellers this year. This equates to 1,461 per day. Most new sellers have joined the Amazon marketplaces in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany.

If this trend continues, the marketplaces of Amazon in Europe will have welcomed over half a million new sellers at the end of this year. Many new sellers will have joined the famous marketplace because of the ongoing popularity boost of ecommerce in general and the fact that many physical retailers in Europe still need to close the doors of their stores and/or want to do more with ecommerce.

Data analyzed by Finbold shows that Amazon welcomed 295,000 new sellers worldwide this year. That corresponds to over 3,700 new sellers per day or even 155 per hour. The .com domain is responsible for more than a quarter of all new vendors. Amazon India and Amazon Canada are also very popular, followed by Amazon UK.

Surprising fifth place for the Netherlands

And a perhaps surprising fifth place is for the Netherlands, where Amazon launched Amazon.nl in March 2020. Here, more new sellers joined than in, for example, Germany, Italy or France.

40% of new sellers joined in Europe

Among the 295,000 new sellers that joined all Amazon marketplaces this year, almost 40 percent joined an Amazon marketplace in Europe. With all these new sellers, Amazon gets wiser and wiser in terms of supply and demand. They know very well which items are popular or upcoming, so they can decide to sell these themselves (at lower prices).

This means the increase of sellers on the Amazon marketplaces only ensures an even bigger Amazon in the near future. But at the same time, there are also plenty of sellers that take advantage of their presence on this very popular ecommerce platform.

More and more Amazon seller acquisition companies

Since mid-2020, numerous companies have emerged whose business model is entirely focused on acquiring Amazon sellers, then scaling those businesses to manage a successful and profitable portfolio of brands and businesses. More than twenty of these Amazon seller acquisition companies are currently active in Europe alone. Some of them have raised tens of millions of euros in funding rounds to acquire successful sellers on Amazon.
