Amazon.nl open for external vendors

Amazon has officially announced it will launch an online store in the Netherlands. That’s why it is now opening its doors to external vendors. Both Dutch and foreign sellers can now register if they want to sell their products on Amazon.nl.

In October of last year, word got out that Amazon would really come to the Netherlands. Although an official launch date is still unknown, online retailers are now able to register on services.amazon.nl.

According to Roeland Donker, country manager Benelux at Amazon, opening the digital doors for external sellers is just a first step. “We’re convinced that we can win the trust of the Dutch consumer with a wide product range, competitive prices and fast and reliable delivery.”

Selling on Amazon.nl costs 39 euros per month

Selling via Amazon costs 39 euros (excluding VAT) per month and with one account it’s also possible to sell through all other Amazon markets in Europe. For those who only sell a few products, a better option would possibly be to become an individual seller. This Amazon Basic account is for those who plan to sell less than 40 items per month. They pay 99 cents per sold item and a referral fee, which varies per category.

Over half of Amazon’s sales sold by external vendors

Currently, over half of Amazon’s sales worldwide are offered by external vendors. In Europe alone, small and medium-sized enterprises sold for 6.9 billion euros via Amazon in 2018.

Amazon in the Netherlands

Amazon first actively entered the Dutch market in November 2014 when it started selling ebooks and its ereader, Kindle. In 2016, the American ecommerce giant translated product pages on Amazon.de to Dutch and two years later, it started offering iDeal, the most popular payment method in the Netherlands. And last year, Dutch consumers got the opportunity to subscribe to Amazon Prime.
