CdiscountMajor French electronics retailer Visit website
Cdiscount is a French ecommerce retailer selling products such as electronics, household appliances, and wine. The company started as a retailer but has now transformed into a marketplace, where it’s home to about 12,000 vendors including 5,000 from France.
Cdiscount sells up to 70 million products in 16 categories (high-tech, home, decorations, appliances, etc.) and services in the domains of travel, energy, health, telephone, and ticketing. The ecommerce retailer serves over 9 million customers and prides itself for the 20 million unique website visitors it welcomes every month.
The company was founded in 1998 by three brothers: Hervé, Christophe and Nicolas Charle. They set out to make cultural products accessible for everyone, by selling DVD’s for 1 euro each.
Since February 2000, the retailer is a subsidiary of Cnova, the ecommerce division of Casino Group. Because of the partnership with Cnova, Cdiscount opened a pilot physical store near Bordeaux in 2006 that showcased the website’s best-selling products. This was followed by another shop in Paris. The distribution of Cdiscount also incorporates Casino Group stores, with delivery points dedicated to Cdiscount being built in Casino stores.
In January 2011, the Casino Group bought the Charle brothers’ shares and now possess 99.6 percent of the capital. In 2014, the company expanded to Belgium. As of today, the company operates in France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy and Luxembourg.
Retailers looking to accelerate their sales can open their online store on Cdiscount using the company’s marketplace. The products will then be added to the Cdiscount website, which means that retailers’ products will be visible to the millions of unique visitors per month. All products are eligible, and retailers can use the logistics, fulfillment, and other services provided by Cdiscount.
