Inditex

Major fashion retail group from Spain Visit website

Inditex is a Spanish fashion retail group, consisting of 8 brands: Zara, Pull&Bear, Massimo Dutti, Bershka, Stradivarius, Oysho, Zara Home, and Uterqüe.

Online sales in 202 markets

It’s one of the largest fashion retailers in the world, with online sales in 202 markets and physical sales through its over 7,000 stores across 96 markets.

The first Zara opened doors in 1975

Inditex started as a modest workshop, called Confecciones GOA, in 1963. It made dresses and quilt dressing gowns for distribution. Twelve years later, Inditex founder Amancio Ortega opened the very first Zara store.

In 1983, Zara started to expand across Spain and one year later, the fashion retailer opened its first logistics center. In 1985, Inditex was officially launched and in 1988, Zara went cross-border for the first time, by opening a store in Porto (Portugal).

Start with ecommerce in 2007

At the beginning of the nineties, the brands Pull&Bear and Massimo Dutti joined the Inditex Group. In 2007, it started with ecommerce by launching an online store for Zara Home. In 2010, Zara began selling its products online. And by the end of that year, the online platform was live in 16 countries across Europe.

In 2020, Inditex announced it would close many smaller stores, while focusing more on ecommerce.
