Cross-border trustmark Shopping Secure launched

Dutch ecommerce association Thuiswinkel.org has launched Shopping Secure, a trustmark for cross-border ecommerce companies. The international trustmark can be used by both B2C and B2B companies.

According to Thuiswinkel.org, Shopping Secure was launched to respond to a common need from the international ecommerce industry. CEO Wijnand Jongen says that online shops doing cross-border business need more international security.

More and more cross-border ecommerce

“More and more Dutch online stores are expanding their business across the border,” he says. “There they face additional challenges, as the distance between seller and buyer is greater, a different language is spoken and different laws and regulations apply.”

What does Shopping Secure entail?

If a business applies for the Shopping Secure trustmark, the online shop will be scanned on security leaks, it will be legally tested to make sure that it complies with laws and regulations and it will be financially monitored.

‘Not everyone can become a member’

Thuiswinkel.org, part of (and the founding father behind) pan-European ecommerce association Ecommerce Europe, says that not everyone can become a member of the Dutch trustmark Thuiswinkel.org and the cross-border version Shopping Secure.

“These trustmarks stand for safe and secure online shopping, in the Netherlands as well as abroad, so our members must comply with laws and regulation. That is why they have to pass through a certification process and will be recertified every year.”

Members will be recertified every year.
