Research from Worldpay shows that 34.5 percent of transactions in Austria happen with cards, while bank transfers (31.1 percent) are also very popular. Most of these bank transfers are done online in real time. Another popular payment method in Austria is the e-wallet, which accounts for 13.6 percent of payments. Based on data from the Austrian Institute for SME Research, ecommerce in Austria was worth 7.3 billion euros in 2018. And the study ‘Internet-Einzelhandel 2018’ shows that ecomerce in Austria accounts for 4.3 percent of the country’s total retail sales.
Clothing and sporting goods are the most popular product category in Austria, with 41 percent of consumers buying products from this category online at least once a year. Books and magazines are in second place, although the number of online shoppers has decreased compared to a similar study five year earliers.

Schuhe24, which sells shoes online from over 2,000 connected retailers in Germany, is partnering with Neckermann in Austria. The cooperation should benefit both Neckermann and the retailers connected to the Schuhe24 Group, which also sells clothing, bags, jewelry, and more.
The German retail platform Shopdaheim is a success. Four weeks after the launch, almost 10.000 dealer addresses from 41 different industries are listed. Every day, clicks in the six-figure range generated through the platform.
CCC Group, a major footwear retail company from Poland, has launched its online shop CCC.eu in Hungary and Austria. In Hungary, the group already operates two ecommerce platforms, while in Austria, this will be the group’s first ecommerce platform.
