‘French ecommerce will exceed 100 billion euros in 2019’

Ecommerce in France has achieved a turnover of 74 billion euros during the first nine months of this year. French ecommerce association Fevad thinks that, due to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, consumers will spend 20 billion euros in the last quarter, meaning French ecommerce will exceed 100 billion euros this year.

On the eve of Black Friday, French ecommerce association Fevad presented the results of its barometer on the online sales in the third quarter and its forecast for the end of the year. The organization thinks online shoppers in France will spend over 20 billion euros in the last quarter, with of course many euros spent on Black Friday, Cyber Monday and just before Christmas.

Ecommerce grew 10.8% year-on-year in third quarter

The overall ecommerce turnover in France grew by 10.8 percent during the third quarter, compared to the situation one year before. In total, ecommerce in France was worth 24.6 billion euros in the third quarter. A total of 426 million transactions took place during these three months, which is an increase of 14.2 compared to the same period last year.

€1.7 billion during Black Friday weekend

According to Fevad, Christmas shopping will mostly be done from Black Friday (29 November) to Cyber Monday (2 December). During these four days, online sales could represent 1.7 billion euros. And driven by the increase in number of buyers and the frequency of purchases, the French ecommerce could generate over 20 billion euros in sales during the last quarter of the year.

191,700 ecommerce websites in France

Fevad has also announced that since the beginning of this year, the number of ecommerce websites in France has grown rapidly: they are now 16 percent more online shops than last year. Currently, ther are 191,700 ecommerce websites in France. These figures include physical stores that launch an online store in addition to their brick-and-mortar business.
