German delivery service Gorillas launches in London

Gorillas, a delivery startup from Germany, has launched its services in London. The company offers a full range of groceries from its own distribution hubs within 10 minutes. The UK is the third market in Europe where Gorillas is active.

Gorillas was founded by Kağan Sümer and Jörg Kattner in May 2020 and started its grocery delivery service in Berlin. Soon, it expanded to other major cities across Germany, like Cologne, Munich and Hamburg. It has also started delivering groceries in the Dutch cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague.

UK launch after funding round

And now it’s time for consumers living in Angel, Shoreditch and the surrounding areas to get familiar with the German ecommerce startup. The London launch follows just a couple of months after it raised 44 million dollars in a Series A funding round. Back then, the founders already said the new funding will be used for expansion across Europe.

Funding will be used for expansion across Europe.

Available in over 15 cities by mid-2021

Part of the money will also be used to expand its Berlin-based team. And by the end of the second quarter this year, Gorillas wants to be available in over 15 cities in Germany and across Europe, while operating more than 60 fulfillment centers in Europe.

Competitors across Europe

Gorillas, which has the slogan “faster than you”, certainly isn’t the only grocery delivery startup in Europe that can get customers their online order very fast. For example, there’s Dija, founded by two former Deliveroo executives, and Getir, a Turkish delivery startup start announced its arrival in the United Kingdom two months ago. And the London-based startup Weezy also promises to deliver groceries in 15 minutes or less.
