Shopify is only 14 years old, but is already extremely popular. And although it’s a Canadian company, it has enormous popularity in the United States. The US accounts for 73.24 percent of all live Shopify ecommerce websites worldwide. But what about the Shopify usage in Europe?

In Europe, Shopify is gaining ground quickly. An increasing number of online retailers are using the ecommerce software that was founded in 2004, when three entrepreneurs wanted to open an online store for snowboarding equipment but weren’t happy with the existing software on the market.

UK has second-largest share

As of this month, there were 1.49 million live Shopify websites globally. And over 73 percent is hosted in the United States. But that doesn’t mean that Shopify isn’t being used in Europe. On the contrary: the United Kingdom has the second-largest share with almost 59,000 Shopify ecommerce websites, which accounts for 3.9 percent.

Germany, France and the Netherlands in top 10

Germany closes the top five with over 23,000 ecommerce websites that are built with Shopify, while other European countries with a considerable number of Shopify websites are France (almost 19,000) and the Netherlands (over 12,000).
