XPO Logistics, a major logistics company from the US, has expanded its last mile logistics service of heavy goods to Europe. The last mile delivery service from XPO Logistics will be available in the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain and France.
XPO Logistics announced the news yesterday, saying it expects to manage over 750,000 last mile deliveries from online retailers and other ecommerce companies in Europe this year. According to chief operating officer Troy Cooper, customers from Europe demanded the service expansion.
More people buy large items online
“Consumers are buying more large items online, including furniture and appliances. These are home deliveries that often require white-glove services, such as assembly, installation and testing”, he explains. “We will leverage our proprietary technology and successful business model that have made us a last mile leader in North America.”
‘Europe currently fragmented with small players’
Luis Gomez, managing direct of transport at XPO Logistics Europe, thinks the last-mile delivery market in Europe is currently very fragmented with small-scale regional players. “We have the scale and experience to look across Europe and give customers results-driven performance as they grow with the boom in ecommerce.”
XPO has its European headquarters in Lyon, France, and conducts the majority of its European operations through its subsidiary, XPO Logistics Europe. In 2017, its business unit Supply Chain Europe generated 2.7 billion euros in revenue, while Supply Chain US generated 732 million euros during the same period. In Europe, the company mostly active in Western and Southern Europe, while it’s not at all present in Scandinavia.
