The goal of the new research hub is to use artificial intelligence (AI) so the ecommerce company can better understand visual data and, as a result, improve the customer experience across the different products and services Amazon has to offer, such as Amazon Web Service and its AI assistant Alexa.
Collaboration with Max Planck Society
For this new research center, Amazon is collaborating with the Max Planck Society. The new Amazon Research Center will also be built adjacent to the campus of the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Tuebingen, near Stuttgart. “We appreciate Amazon’s commitment in the Cyber Valley and for the research on artificial intelligence”, says Max Planck President Martin Stratmann. “We will gain another strong partner who will further increase the international significance of research in the area of machine learning and computer vision in this region.”
The Tuebingen site will be the fourth Amazon Research Center in Germany after Berlin, Dresden and Aachen.
