Dutch Fonq.nl now accepts bitcoin payments
Fonq.nl, a popular online department store from the Netherlands, is now accepting bitcoins as a payment method. Aside from iDeal, credit card, pay after delivery, PayPal and bank transfer, the online retailer’s consumers can now also pay with the digital currency.
This news wasn’t shared by Fonq.nl itself – the new payment method isn’t even mentioned in its FAQ section – but by global bitcoin payment service provider Bitpay on Twitter:
#Bitcoin users in Europe can start their Christmas shopping early with Dutch retailer @fonq: https://t.co/Yd3teAt565 pic.twitter.com/CUzHs95UfN

The announcement and implementation may lead to a new boost for the digital currency, as Fonq.nl is part of RFS, the second largest ecommerce company in the Netherlands. Last year, the online department store won a prestigious award in the Home, Hobby and Gift category during the Thuiswinkel Awards.
Fonq operates four online stores in Europe. Next to its main business in the Netherlands, the ecommerce company also has dedicated websites in Belgium, France and Germany. We tried to order products with bitcoin in these stores, but that’s not possible (yet). Paying with bitcoin is only available at the Dutch ecommerce site Fonq.nl.
