eBay offers Managed Payments in Germany
eBay is introducing its Managed Payments offering in Germany, making this the second country, after the United States, where eBay gives consumers flexibility and choice in payment methods.
With this solution, eBay managed the payments transactions, which means consumers are able to complete their purchases all on eBay. Another result of this is that sellers will no longer be paid directly from buyers via PayPal. Instead, buyers will be paid daily and directly to their own bank accounts.
Germans prefer a variety of payment options
“Bringing our managed payments experience to Germany will provide a diverse testing ground for more payment methods as we expand globally”, Alyssa Cutright, VP of Global Payments at eBay, says. “Germany is one of eBay’s largest markets globally and German customers place a high value on a convenient and seamless shopping experience, including a preference for a variety of payment options”, said Eben Sermon, Vice President of eBay Germany.
eBay wants to offer consumers in Germany a variety of payment options, including credit card, direct debit, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal. The latter was eBay’s payment partner, as PayPal was a wholly owned subsidiary since 2002. In 2015 however, the two companies went their own way.
eBay has partnered with Adyen
In 2018, eBay announced that its back-end payment service would no longer be provided by PayPal, but instead by Dutch payment service provider Adyen.
