Takeaway.com acquires food delivery services in Eastern Europe

Takeaway.com, the Dutch company that’s gaining more and more market share in Europe, has acquired two food delivery marketplaces in Eastern Europe. Takeaway.com is now the owner of BGmenu from Bulgaria and Oliviera from Romania.

With the acquisition of both players – the transaction is valued at 10.5 million euros – Takeaway.com wants to further expand its prominent position in the online food delivery market in Europe.

Takeaway.com owns major brands throughout Europe

The Dutch company already owns major food delivery brands in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Belgium and Austria. The new acquired BGMenu is, in terms of orders, the market leader in food delivery in Bulgaria, while Oliviera is one of the largest food delivery marketplaces in Romania.

Jitse Groen, CEO and founder of Takeaway.com, commented: “With these acquisitions, we are adding fast-growing online food delivery markets with a sizeable population to our footprint”, CEO and founder Jitse Groen comments. “It is our intent to execute the same strategy in these countries that brought hypergrowth to our Polish business Pyszne.pl.”

‘Significant market opportunity in Eastern Europe’

Vladimir Davchev, CEO of both BGmenu and Oliviera thinks there is a significant market opportunity in south eastern Europe and partnering with Takeaway.com gives them the best opportunity to build on their success to date in this region. “The experience and additional capital from Takeaway.com will enable us to greatly improve our service offering to both consumers and restaurants.”
