Stamps.com acquires MetaPack

Stamps.com acquires MetaPack

Ecommerce delivery platform MetaPack has been acquired by Stamps, a shipping software solution from the US. Stamps.com, which also offers provides postage online, bought the UK business for approximately 197 million euros.

The sale happens in a year in which MetaPack has shown continued high growth in both the United Kingdom and continental Europe. After making some acquisitions itself (for example, it bought US shipping vendor ABOL Software in 2014), MetaPack is now the one being acquired.

Achieving international ambitions

After the acquisition is complete, MetaPack will operate as a subsidiary of Stamps.com. According to the press release, the company will help Stamps.com to achieve its international ambitions. Because up until now, Stamps.com has been focused on developing its core US-based market.

‘Companies are complementary’

“The two companies are highly complementary”, the press release states. “The success of Stamps.com postage online and shipping software products in the SME market combined with the market-leading position of MetaPack’s platform in the retail enterprise space is expected to result in a wide number of cooperative opportunities for the combined business and enhanced services for customers of both organizations.”

For now, MetaPack, which partnered with B2C Europe in 2016, will keep operating autonomously and there are no changes to the management team being made. “Ecommerce will continue to drive huge change in retailing and MetaPack is now best positioned to meet market needs all over the world. I’ve no doubt the best years are still to come”, founder Patrick Wall commented.
