Bargain retailer Poundland launches online store

Poundland, a UK retailer that sells products for the fixed £1 price, has launched its first online store. Now customers in the United Kingdom can shop online for more than 2,000 items in categories such as cosmetics, food and drink, health and beauty, DIY and pets.

The online store of Poundland only sells to UK customers, at least for now. There is no minimum order value required, but if consumers spend more than 50 pounds, the £4 for delivery costs will drop. Poundland only ships to consumers’ homes, but click and collect is planned for 2016, Internet Retailing writes.

Shoppers can win free delivery or discounts
In the new online store customers can navigate through categories, but also use a shuffle button or a scratch card, which gives consumers the opportunity to win free delivery or discounts. Poundland’s chief executive Jim McCarthy is very pleased to have launched online. “Our online channel will make shopping even easier, it’s convenient and caters for shoppers who may not yet have a Poundland nearby, but who still want to benefit from the amazing value and remarkable treasure trove of lines we offer”, he says.

In its home country the United Kingdom, Poundland has 5.3 million customers a week who visit one of the 550 stores across the country. Closest competitors in the UK market are 99p Stores (of which Poundland announced plans to acquire) and Poundworld. The latter company launched its own online store this April.
