Amazon delivers first package via drone

Amazon has made history last week when it made its first drone delivery to a customer. The online retail company shipped a Fire TV stick and some popcorn 13 minutes after the customer in Cambridge, UK placed the order online.

This milestone was shared by Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos, who tweeted a photo of the drone in flight. In the tweet, he explained how the delivery was done via Amazon’s drone delivery program called Amazon Prime Air. He also shared a link to this video:

The video explains how Amazon started a private trail for customers in the Cambridge area of England and how one of its operating fulfillment centers is unlike all the rest, because it contains innovative Prime Air technology. “Moments are receiving the order an electrically-power Amazon drown makes its way down an automated track and then rises into the sky with the customer’s package on board.” The drones are autonomous – from takeoff to landing and return – they operate completely on their own.

Amazon will add hundreds of customers

The Amazon Prime Air program has just customers for now, but in the coming months the company will offer participation to dozens of customers living within several miles of its UK facility and then grow to hundreds more.
