The move follows one week after Amazon announced it will open its platform in the Netherlands for third party sellers.

Men’s and women’s clothing was thus far the biggest product category still missing on, the company that – just like Amazon – started as an online bookstore but soon expanded its assortment extensively.

In the last couple of years, introduced the sales of children’s clothing, shoes, accessories and sportswear, but regular men’s and women’s clothing was still missing. Until now, as the company has announced its platform is open to vendors selling these kinds of products.

About You joins marketplace

The Dutch ecommerce giant already announced major (local) brands and fashion retailers such as About You, Jack & Jones, Miss Etam, Claudia Sträter and Zeeman will sell their products on the marketplace.

“As a platform we strive for the most complete range of products for our ten million customers, so we can be the starting point of shopping”, Margaret Versteden, Chief Commercial Officer at explains.

“Many customers were already searching for women’s and men’s fashion. That’s why it makes sense to add this product range and make our assortment more complete than ever. Selling fashion is a specialty and it means different customer needs and behavior than with other product categories on our platform.”

Selling fashion is a speciality.

‘Just a coincidence’ claims it has taken quite some time to research and develop the customer needs and behavior in this area. Versteden says it’s just a concidence that has decided to take this step, only one week after opened its platform to sellers. “We have been working towards this, for years”, she says.
