DHL grows 5.5%, thanks to ecommerce

Deutsche Post DHL Group saw its revenue increase by 5.5 percent to 66.8 billion euros in 2020. This growth was primarily driven by the global ecommerce boom. The pandemic measures worldwide led to higher parcel volumes.

The logistic company‘s operating profit increased by 17.4 percent to over 4.8 billion euros in 2020. This clearly exceeds DHL’s previously adjusted earnings target of 4.1 to 4.4 billion euros. DHL says 2020 was an exceptionally challenging year.

Consistently aligning DHL towards ecommerce

“Our services were in demand more than ever. We not only posted record earnings, but also created 20,000 new jobs worldwide”, it says in a press release [pdf]. According to CEO Frank Appel, this success didn’t come from nowhere. He says Deutsche Post DHL Group focused on its core logistics business by consistently aligning the company towards ecommerce.

DHL created 20,000 new jobs worldwide.

“This way we are strengthening our profitability and our resilience against global economic turbulence”, Appel adds. “Deutsche Post DHL Group is thus well positioned to continue growing profitably in the coming years.”
