Dutch e-retailer Bol.com offers same day delivery service

Bol.com, the biggest online retailer in the Netherlands, has today introduced a same day delivery service for its customers. If they place an order before noon, customers can pick up their package at an Albert Heijn store nearby before 5 o’clock in the afternoon.

Bol.com announced the news today on its website. “We are introducing ‘Vandaag Ophalen’, a new service that makes delivery affordable and easy. It’s convenient for anyone who needs a last minute gift, wants to spontaneously organize a BBQ or just can’t wait to get their goods”, the Dutch online retailer says.

So customers who choose for this option, can pick up their order at an Albert Heijn store nearby later that day. It’s not a coincidence Bol.com has partnered up with the biggest supermarket chain in the Netherlands: both companies are owned by Ahold.

No more high delivery costs
“Within the ecommerce sphere, few consumers use same day delivery, because they are often not willing to pay for the high delivery costs. While we were developing ‘Vandaag Ophalen’ we’ve put low costs as our main focus”, Michel Schaffer, marketing manager at Bol.com, says. “By combining the delivery of packages with a daily habit – namely doing groceries – we’ve managed to make the service both affordable and easy. This way consumers can visit one store for all of their purchases during one moment of the day.” According to Schaeffer Bol.com proves again how online shopping offers endless possibilities.

If customers want to make use of the same day delivery option, they need to pay 1.99 euros for now. Starting September this year, the service costs €4.99 per order. The new service applies only to products Bol.com has stored in its fulfillment center in Waalwijk (in the southern Netherlands).
