Wildberries is biggest online retailer in Russia

Online fashion retailer Wildberries.ru is the number one in a list of Russian ecommerce websites ranked by sales volume, number of orders and average order value. Just like in 2016 and 2017, the fashion website leads the ranks.

Research agency Data Insight ranked Russian ecommerce websites and excluded marketplaces, so AliExpress for example can’t be found on the list.

Wildberries also biggest in terms of traffic

With a revenue of more than 1.5 billion euros, Wildberries is the absolute number one, way ahead of other players on the list. Internet Retailer found out that the Russian fashion retailer is also the country’s leader in terms of traffic, ahead of other major fashion players such as Asos, H&M and Zara. According to Forbes Russia, the value of Wildberries is estimated at something over 1 billion euros.

Top 5 of online stores in Russia

The top 5 is dominated by online retailers selling consumer electronics, with pure player Citilink on second place, multichannel retailer MVideo on the third place and pure player DNS-Shop ranking fifth. Between them is general online store Ozon.

In the list we also find some Western-owned ecommerce companies, such as Lamoda (ranked 6th), Bonprix (14th) and Witt (21st). These last two companies are part of the major German retail group Otto Group, which was very present in Russia but has now partially left the market.

Amazon not on the list

Amazon is, maybe surprisingly, not on the list of the 40 biggest online stores in Russia. That’s because its sales to Russian consumers are very modest, based only on a cross-border offer as Amazon doesn’t have a dedicated website in Russia.
