Zalando introduces body measurement feature

Zalando launches a body measurement feature to assist customers in the DACH region in finding their right size. They receive size advice based on their measurement by taking two pictures of themselves. With this tool, size-related returns should be reduced.

By taking just two pictures in tight clothing, Zalando should be able to predict the customer’s body measurements. The platform claims to be the first company of this scale that introduced such a feature yet.

Only available in DACH region yet

At the moment, the feature is available in the DACH region for women’s tops, including dresses. According to Zalando, this is one of the most challenging categories for customers to find the right size. The platform will further expand to more categories and markets in the future.

We help with one of the main problem in the industry.

“Helping customers find the right fit is an important part of deepening customer relationships. With the introduction of size advice for body measurements we continue to leverage our innovation to help our customers with one of the main problems of the fashion industry”, says Stacia Carr, Vice President Size & Fit at Zalando.

Next stap in finding the right size at first try

With this body measurement feature, the company also supports brand partners: “It can provide further insights into their customers’ size and fit requirements”, Carr explains. When customers’ body measurements are predicted, the photos are deleted. According to Zalando, customers have full control of their data-sharing preferences.

Size-related returns already reduced by 10%

Size recommendations with your measurements is the next step to help customers find the right size at first try. In the past years Zalando has already reduced size-related returns by 10% comparing to items without size advice. The experience is based on Zalando’s technology and body scanning tool Fision, which Zalando acquired in 2020.
