Zero-waste online supermarket Good Club raises €450k

Online supermarket Good Club from the UK has successfully completed a crowdfunding campaign to raise 400,000 pounds. The grocer has the ambition to become the world’s first zero-waste online supermarket. With the money, Good Club wants to try out reusable product packaging.

Good Club, founded by Ben Patten who also co-founded online grocer Farmdrop, already offers a sustainable product range. But with the crowdfunding project it launched last month, the online supermarket wants to make custom designed, reusable product packaging and delivery boxes. These packaging can be recovered from customers and then cleaned and reused.

Cutting out the middlemen

“We want to make ethical household staples accessible”, the company explained. “We make them affordable by cutting out middlemen, avoiding the costs of selling fresh, and focusing on a range of 3000 staples. This fundraise helps us develop the service into the world’s first zero-waste online supermarket.”

‘Prices are 2.54% less than lowest in market’

According to the accompanying information on the Crowdcube page, Good Club’s monthly sales are at 25,000 euros, while each new customer costs almost 25 euros to acquire. The average basket size is 70 euros and Good Club’s prices are said to be 2.54 percent less than the lowest in the market.
