Fruugo returns to profit
Online marketplace Fruugo made a profit of 1.4 million British pounds (1.64 million euros) in 2025. Just a year earlier, the company had made a loss of 10.1 million British pounds (11,8 million euros). As a result, the marketplace has expanded its services recently.
Fruugo is an online marketplace that was originally founded in Helsinki, Finland, in 2006. Currently, it is headquartered in the United Kingdom. Sellers on the platform are responsible for their stock and handle their own shipping. With its large reach in more than 40 countries, Fruugo facilitates cross-border trading to online sellers.
Decrease in turnover
According to newly released reports about Fruugo’s financial year up to December 31 2025, turnover decreased for the second year in a row. Revenue decreased from 56.4 million British pounds (66 million euros) to 38.4 million pounds (44.9 million euros). The online marketplace has been cleaning up its retailer base, as well as its product range.
The company’s transaction value also decreased, by 33 percent. This is because the firm had to make changes to ensure compliance with new regulations.
Profit after cost cutting
Despite these decreases, Fruugo was able to return to profit. Its operating profit after exceptional items was 1.2 million British pounds (1.4 million euros). A year earlier, the company was still at an operating loss of 11.2 million British pounds (13.1 million euros).
With its operating profit, as well as its net profit, Fruugo says that it has reached a more stabilized position since 2024. During the past year, the company implemented cost savings. It reduced its average headcount (including contractors) from 184 in 2024, to 165 in 2025.
‘We are pleased with the progress made in repositioning Fruugo for the future’
“We are pleased with the progress made in repositioning Fruugo for the future. While there is further to go, I am grateful for the support of our great team at Fruugo, our merchants and our partners across the marketplace ecosystem”, said Chief executive Fergal Gara in an interview with Insider.
Expansions in 2026
Earlier this year, the online marketplace already expanded its services. Retailers from Australia, Singapore, New Zealand and Norway are able to sell domestically through Fruugo since June. They could already sell internationally on the platform, but are now also able to sell to local customers.
Retailers from Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia can now sell on the marketplace and reach international shoppers
And later that month, the marketplace also added Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia as new sellers countries. Retailers can now actively register, onboard and sell on the marketplace. According to the company, these launches are part of Fruugo’s broader European marketplace strategy. It wants to create more opportunities for sellers in Europe to access its international shopper base.
