Amazon launches in Switzerland

The entry of Amazon into the Swish ecommerce market seems imminent. The American ecommerce giant has signed a cooperation agreement with Swiss Post, which means the postal agency will carry out customs clearance for Amazon in the near future.

“We expect the first packages to arrive in December or January”, a person involved said, according to Bilanz. Fliex Stierli, who is head of postal customs clearance at Swiss Post, has confirmed that the postal company is talking to Amazon. “But there are still a few operational details we need to clarify”, he adds. Amazon also confirms the interest in the Swiss ecommerce market. “We certainly don’t look past Switzerland”, says Ralph Kleber, country manager of Amazon.de. “The Swiss customer is extremely important for us. Amazon doesn’t want to disappoint them.”

24-hour delivery from abroad possible

Customs clearance is said to take a maximum of three hours, which makes 24-hour delivery from abroad possible. Amazon offers this delivery method as part of its Prime offer in Germany. With Amazon Prime, consumers in Switzerland would be able to access Amazon’s complete online offering, which includes 229 million products. Amazon already follows this model in the Netherlands, Austria and Turkey.
