‘DHL will deliver food for Amazon in Germany’

DHL is said to become the exclusive logistics partner for Amazon Fresh in Germany. Next month, the German logistics company will start with delivering fresh food to Amazon customers in Berlin. After the capital, the rest of the country should follow soon.

The German newspaper Handelsblatt delivered the news this morning. It also writes the rumored partnership between Amazon and DHL could change the supermarket sector in Germany radically. Amazon Fresh, the online service for fresh goods, would be the biggest online supermarket in Germany.

Amazon wanted to employ several logistics companies

Industry sources say, originally, Amazon planned to organize the delivery for Amazon Fresh by employing multiple logistic companies. “But apparently DHL made them an offer that was so appealing financially that Amazon couldn’t refuse”, Handelsblatt writes.

So for now, nothing has been officially confirmed, but if the sources are right, the two companies will launch their partnership this April in Berlin, after which the rest of Germany should follow. A logistics center for Amazon Fresh is being built in Munich.

DHL delivers groceries for online supermarkets

DHL already delivers groceries for online supermarket Allyouneed Fresh, but said it operates its network not just for this player only and is open to additional customers.
