French startup Cajoo promises grocery delivery in 15 minutes
Cajoo, a new startup from France, promises to deliver groceries in 15 minutes. The ecommerce logistics company had just raised 6 million euros to make this possible.
Cajoo raised the money during a funding round led by Frst and XAnge, while the two co-founders of Chauffeur-Privé (which is now called Kapten) also participated. Cajoo recently launched their mobile app and is ready to deliver groceries, starting in Paris.
Same inventory as regular corner-shop
Urban consumers can use the Cajoo app to order groceries online and then get them delivered at their door only 15 minutes later. The French startup says it has the same inventory as a regular corner-shop, including eggs, snacks, wine, laundry detergent, frozen foods or diapers.
No established brick-and-mortar retailer is able to offer such a quick delivery experience.
According to investor XAnge, Cajoo is a real game-changer in the field of urban delivery in France. “No established brick-and-mortar retailer is able to offer such a quick delivery experience. Amazon Prime Now delivery can take up to two hours and pure-players like Deliveroo or Uber Eats are focusing on the food-delivery experience. Glovo left the market recently, unable to get sufficient margins with its pick-up in store model”, it writes.
Company is fully focused on 15-minute delivery
XAnge thinks Cajoo’s business model can beat the competition and generate better margins. “The central bet here is that its full-stack and tech-intensive model will make it difficult for retailers – even Amazon – to achieve the same level of execution. Why? Because the company’s operations are totally focused on a unique value proposition: the 15-minute delivery.”
In order to keep its focus on this proposition, Cajoo has warehouses in the center of Paris and not in the suburbs. These warehouses are less than 100 square meters big and are as close as possible to the customers. “They are organized exclusively for pickup and delivery. The inventory is entirely managed by the team, it’s not a marketplace model. All those characteristics make Cajoo unique”, XAnge concludes.
