Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof partners with Amazon and Zalando

Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof is cooperating with online retailers Amazon and Zalando. The German department store giant and Amazon have been partners since 2017, but this partnership is being expanded, while Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof now also adds Zalando as a partner.

Two years ago, Amazon Germany customers got the opportunity to pick up their orders in Amazon Lockers in numerous Galeria branches. These lockers however are often situated somewhere in the back of the store. Now, Amazon customers also have the possibility to pick up their orders in the service center of a Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof store.

Partnership with Zalando

The partnership with Zalando is totally new. The idea is that part of the Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof assortment will be sold through the Zalando platform. Orders from Zalando’s customers can be taken over and processed directly by selected Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof branches.

Zalano becomes platform for sellers

This step is part of Zalando’s ambition to become a platform for sellers, rather than just a retailer that solely sells its own stuff. Zalando expects that in four or five years’ time, partners will account for about 40 percent of the company’s sales.

Both projects start as pilot projects with selected branches and, if successful, will be extended to more branches throughout the country.
