Turkish online spending reached 86 billion euros

Last year, the transaction volume in Türkiye has increased more than 52 percent, reaching 4.57 trillion Turkish lira. This comes down to around 86 billion euros. In total, there were 5.94 billion online transactions in the country in 2025.

These data come from the latest E-Commerce Outlook Report, which was presented last week by the Ministry of Trade of Türkiye. In 2024, the previous edition of this report indicated that online spending in the country increased 62 percent in the local currency. Converted into euros, the growth amounted to 16 percent, reaching 61.5 billion euros.

Ecommerce has a 19.5% share in all retail

In 2025, ecommerce in Türkiye increased again. According to the Turkish Minister of Trade, Ömer Bolat, the online sales volume reached approximately 115.5 billion dollars. In this currency, the trade volume increased 29 percent. Converted into euros, the online sales total reached around 85.9 billion euros in 2025. Compared to 2024, this is an increase of 39.7 percent.

Ecommerce accounted for 6.9% of the country’s gross domestic product

Compared to all retail in the country, ecommerce has reached a share of 19.5 percent. At the same time, ecommerce accounted for 6.9 percent of the country’s gross domestic product. Retail ecommerce, specifically, reached 2.46 trillion Turkish lira (around 46.3 billion euros) in 2025. Compared to a year earlier, the sector has grown 83.7 percent in Turkish lira terms.

According to Minister Bolat, up to 634,000 businesses were active in ecommerce last year. He said that small businesses are increasingly using digital means in their sales, adding: “75 percent of ecommerce businesses are sole proprietorships, 21 percent are limited liability companies, and 4 percent are joint-stock companies. This means there are individuals and corporations of varying sizes engaged in ecommerce.”

Highest online spending in clothing sector

The report also indicates that 20.3 of ecommerce sales were in the food sector, with a total of 128,000 businesses in the food sector selling online. Around 14 percent, or 87,500 businesses, are operating in the clothing, footwear, and accessories sector. The electronics sector ranks third, with a 12 percent share, and 75,500 businesses selling online.

When looking at how much was spent in each sector, clothing, footwear and accessories ranks first. Sales amounted to around 8.1 billion euros in the sector (428 billion Turkish lira). Electronics followed second, with 5.7 billion euros (304 billion Turkish lira). In third place was the airlines sector, with around 5.4 billion euros (285 billion Turkish lira).
