Zalando opens fulfillment center in Sweden

Zalando has opened a new fulfillment center in Sweden. In Brunna, near Stockholm, the online fashion player has opened a fulfillment center that’s approximately 30,000 square meters big and gives place to around 500 employees as well as 50 autonomous mobile robots.

Due to advanced automation technology onsite and its strategic geographical location, the new fulfillment center of Zalando should cut lead times in half for customers in the Nordics. According to the company, the new location has the full potential for next-day deliveries to the Nordic capitals and same-day delivery in Stockholm.

The Nordics: one of Zalando’s fastest growing regions

“The Nordics has been one of the fastest growing regions for Zalando, and we want to increase our growth, both in terms of revenues and active customers”, Kenneth Melchior, Director Northern Europe at Zalando, says. “In order to do this, we need to get closer to Nordic consumers. Shortening lead times through opening a satellite warehouse in Sweden and providing a strong Nordic assortment are key elements going forward.”

50 autonomous mobile robots

Zalando uses automation technologies to ease the workload of their employees. They’ve installed 50 GreyOrange butlers: autonomous mobile robots that will complement the manual work of the around 500 employees in the fulfillment center. But it’s not only about easing the workload, Zalando also wants to increase efficiency. “Better and faster warehouse operations allow us to process orders even faster, and our customers will benefit from shorter delivery times”, says Jan Bartels, VP Customer Fulfillment and Logistics at Zalando.
