83% Nordic consumers shop online regularly
At least 83 percent of Nordic consumers shop online monthly, according to a new report. Cross-border shopping is becoming more common in these countries. In the last twelve months, 76 percent of consumers in the Nordics purchased products abroad.
These data come from PostNord’s E-commerce in the Nordics Autumn report. The research was carried out in September and October. In total, 1,000 consumers in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark were surveyed.
Recommerce opportunities
We have written about ecommerce in the Nordics more often. Earlier research had already pointed out that there was still growth potential there. According to this newest report, there are opportunities for recommerce in the Nordics.
More than one out of four Nordic consumers buy secondhand products online
More than one out of four Nordic consumers (29 percent) bought second-hand products online in the last month, during the study. The second-hand product categories that are bought most often are clothes and footwear. At least 47 percent of consumers bought these products when they shopped second-hand products.
Norwegians aged 30 to 45 most active online
When looking at the differences between generations, it is evident that young Nordics shop online most often. However, Norwegians aged between 30 and 45 stand out. They are the most active online shoppers in the Nordics. They also shop cross-border often. The only group that shops online as often, are Danish 18- to 29-year-olds.
Consumers aged 65 to 79 in Sweden and Denmark are more likely to shop online weekly than in other countries
Out of the older generations, Sweden and Denmark have the largest share of 65- to 79-year-olds that shop online weekly. They are twice as likely to place online orders than their counterparts in other countries. However, this only applies to domestic shopping. In cross-border shopping, there are no differences between the countries.
