Carrefour extends home delivery in France

French supermarket chain Carrefour is busy extending its home delivery service across the whole of France. By 2020, all cities with a population of at least 10,000 people will be able to make use of the service. Later this year, Carrefour also lets customers pick up non-food items they ordered online at a hypermarket within two hours.

That’s what French magazine LSA writes, based on documents Carrefour CEO Alexandre Bompard have shared.

More supermarkets offer home delivery

Last year, Carrefour tested its home delivery service for the first time from 52 stores, of which 23 were hypermarkets. Now this is extended to 42 additional stores, including 26 hypermarkets. This way, 45 city regions and 30 cities in France become eligible for Carrefour’s home delivery service. And by 2020, home delivery should be available to all cities in France that have a population of at least 10,000 people.

Click-and-collect service also expands

Carrefour’s click-and-collect service will be rolled out across the nation. With this service, customers can order non-food items online and within two hours pick them up. Starting this month, this service becomes available in all hypermarkets that have a Drive (a pick-up point for online grocery orders).

The French supermarkets hopes to process over 813,000 online non-food orders this year, which is significantly more than the almost 30,000 orders of these kind that it processed last year. And next year, the million orders milestone should be surpassed.
