Fressnapf is launching new warehouse

German pet store group Fressnapf is launching its ninth European logistics location. The new building will cover almost 72,000 square meters. The news is accompanied by the Group’s financial results of last year, as it generated a turnover of around 4 billion euros.

The Fressnapf Group owns over 2,000 pet stores across Europe. It is also active online. According to the German company, last year its online sales increased by more than 20 percent compared to 2022. The Group’s total sales grew around 475 million euros compared to 2022. And its international business grew 19 percent, to 1.9 billion euros.

‘Our business model has proven to be resilient.’

“Our business model has proven to be resilient. The positive sales development is based on the consistent implementation of our strategy towards the omnichannel ecosystem. This was driven by the expansion and transformation of our stores, the wider pan-European footprint through the acquisition of Jumper in the Netherlands and the extension and internationalization of our service offering”, said founder and owner Torsten Toeller.

Accelerating ecommerce operations

The company has now also announced that it is building a new warehouse and office building, which will cover an area of almost 72,000 square meters. Construction will start at the end of March. The warehouse will serve as an ecommerce hub.

‘The new warehouse will increase the proportion of next-day deliveries.’

“As a hub for our European ecommerce business, the new logistics center will significantly improve the customer journey of our online customers. This will allow us to significantly increase the proportion of next-day deliveries and thus further increase customer satisfaction”, explains Christian, Buschmann, VP Logistics Engineering & Real Estate of the Fressnapf Group.

Competition

According to the Group, the warehouse will create 800 new jobs from the summer of 2025. Fressnapf is a strong competitor of Zooplus, which recently expanded its subscription program to new markets. With this new warehouse, Fressnapf expects that its ecommerce business will continue to grow.
