VidaXL builds second dc

Online retailer VidaXL has started the realization of its second distribution center. Just like the first one, this building will go up in Venlo, in the southern part of the Netherlands, near Germany. The new dc, which will measure 80,000 square meters, is set to open in March 2020.

The news of the new distribution center follows relatively shortly after VidaXL opened its previous warehouse. At the end of 2017, the Dutch ecommerce company opened a dc of about 100,000 square meters in Venlo.

VidaXL Marketplace

VidaXL is growing rapidly and thus in need of a second distribution center. That growth got a boost after the ecommerce company launched a marketplace in 2016. VidaXL made it possible for other, external vendors to sell their products on and through the VidaXL platform.

VidaXL enables dropshipping

And two years later, in 2018, VidaXL launched a dropshipping program. This enables other retailers to sell VidaXL products in their own online stores. The company’s full assortment can be sold through other retailer’s online stores, while VidaXL takes care of the customer service and is also responsible for the return process.

From selling on eBay to becoming its own marketplace

The Dutch company was founded in 2006 by Gerjan den Hartog and Wouter Bakker, who started with selling some items in Germany via eBay. At first, the company focused on selling products for in and around the house, but soon the assortment got more extensive and external vendors got to sell on VidaXL’s platform and got to sell VidaXL’s products in their own stores.
