Bol.com now sells beverages and spirits online

Bol.com, the biggest online retailer in the Netherlands, has finally entered the food and drink industry. The ecommerce giant now sells wine, craft beer, champagne, whisk(e)y and other liquors through its website.

The online assortment of alcoholic beverages and liquors comes from both external vendors and Gall & Gall, a liquor retailer that’s – just like Bol.com – owned by Ahold Delhaize. It’s the first time Bol.com has launched a product category that fits in the food and drink segment.

The new drank section currently features over 3,500 products, ranging from single beer bottles that cost €1.52 to bottles of wine that cost no less than 2,000 euros. In addition, Bol.com also offers accessories such as glasses, coolers and carafes. It wants to inspire customers in making a selection, by offering them information pages about the different kinds of drinks and gift tips.

‘Selling drinks is a specialism’

“We do realize that selling drinks is a specialism, which requires extensive knowledge of the assortment and experience with distribution where age control is very important”, CCO Margaret Versteden says. “That’s why we’ve chosen to use our network at this launch and to work together with a select number of specialized partners. They offer their product range and information through our platform and they take care of the stock and delivery.”
