Amazon launching dedicated online store for Ireland

Irish online shoppers can explore a dedicated Amazon domain next year. It will showcase a broad array of products “with low, local prices, and without additional customs charges”. Shoppers can expect an expanded selection from Irish businesses, quicker deliveries, and easier returns.

Amazon.ie will open its doors in 2025, 27 years after the opening of Amazon.co.uk, the online market leader in the United Kingdom, where many Irish online shoppers make purchases. With the opening of the dedicated store in Ireland, Amazon aims to enhance the retail experience for existing and new customers.

Business opportunities

The store follows the launch of Amazon’s first fulfillment center in Dublin in 2022 (photo), already facilitating fast delivery for customers across the country seven days a week. Delivery speed will further increase, is one of the promises made by John Boumphrey, Amazon’s country manager for the UK and Ireland.

In addition to benefits for shoppers, Amazon.ie says that it also brings advantages for sellers: “It will provide great opportunities for small and medium-sized Irish businesses to reach a bigger audience at home and abroad”, Boumphrey stated.

“This underscores our continued commitment to Ireland.”

Over 1,000 small and medium-sized Irish enterprises (SMEs) already sell on Amazon, generating over 150 million pounds in export sales in 2022 alone according to the company. In the battle against Chinese competitors, Amazon is making efforts to attract SMEs in Europe.

Dedicated Amazon stores in Europe

Amazon is steadily expanding the number of dedicated online stores for European countries. Last year, the company occupied five of the ten spots in BVOH’s top 10 of European marketplaces, with its websites for Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, France, and Spain. In recent years, Amazon has opened full-fledged dedicated stores for the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, and Belgium.
