PayPal’s Smart Payment Buttons roll out in Europe

Paypal introduced PayPal Checkout with Smart Payment Buttons in the US three months ago, to give consumers more choice in how they can pay. Now, the international payments company has launched these payment buttons in Europe.

With PayPal Checkout with Smart Payment Buttons, consumers can choose which payment method they want to use. The checkout dynamically shows the most relevant payment methods at checkout, including PayPal (of course), Venmo and PayPal Credit. But now in Europe, it will also show local alternative payment methods.

Local alternative payment methods

For example, in the Netherlands it will include iDeal for local customers, while in Belgium Bancontact will be shown. And there’s MyBank for customers in Italy, Giropay for customers in Germany and EPS for customers in Austria.

Companies that sell across border to customers in the aforementioned markets in Europe are now able to dynamically present relevant local wallets, based on the customer’s location. PayPal says it expects to roll out extra local payment methods in the near future.
