German Temu customers saved 27% on purchases

German Temu customers saved 27% on purchases

Temu has now been active in Europe for two years. According to a recent survey by the Chinese marketplace, German customers said that they have average saving of 27 percent on purchases they placed on Temu in 2024. And 41 percent wonder why identical products cost more on other platforms.

These data come from Temu’s survey that was conducted in January this year. Together with Ipsos, a total of 3,000 online shoppers were surveyed. Of that total, 727 were also customers of Temu. The respondents came from the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Spain.

Reasons to shop on Temu

In The United Kingdom, Temu customers said that they saved 25 percent in 2024. In France, customers said that they saved 24 percent with their purchases on the platform in 2024.

European shoppers often choose to shop on Temu because of the low product prices on the platform. In the United Kingdom, this was the main reason for the majority of shoppers (60 percent) to start buying on Temu. In France, that share was similar (62 percent).

In Spain, 54 percent of customers said that they started shopping on Temu because of the low prices. The large product range on the platform was also often mentioned by customers in these countries.

‘Low price does not necessarily mean poor quality’

A large majority of German shoppers (75 percent) said that Temu offers good value for money. “This study shows that a low price does not necessarily mean poor quality. Temu customers can choose the level of quality they want, and they are clearly satisfied with what they get”, said Björn Ognibeni, co-founder of ChinaBriefs.io.

‘German Temu customers plan to spend the same or more money on the platform this year’

”As a result, 75 percent of respondents feel they get real value for their money. It is therefore not surprising that 69 percent of German Temu customers plan to spend the same or more money on the platform in 2025.”

That sentiment was similar in other countries. In the United Kingdom, even more Temu customers said that they got good value for money: 81 percent. In France, the share was 78 percent. In Spain, it came to 80 percent.

Dangerous products

However, it should be noted that earlier research also proved that more than 85 percent of products from international marketplaces like Temu, Shein and AliExpress do not comply with European legislation. While customers are excited about lower prices on these platforms, the products they receive are sometimes unsafe. Shein and Temu have promised to invest more in making sure the products on the platform are of adequate quality.
