UPS launches Saturday delivery in Europe

UPS will launch its Saturday delivery service in eight European markets this month. The launch follows after European consumers have increasingly turned to online shopping during the coronavirus breakout.

The UPS Saturday Standard service will launch in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Poland. The company says it is the only carrier consistently offering a Saturday delivery option at the normal weekday cost when shipping to a UPS Access Point.

Traditional delivery no longer fits customers’ expectations

The introduced service aims to help small businesses reach their customers at the weekend. “Traditional delivery options limited to Monday through Friday no longer fit our customers’ expectations”, the company says. “UPS has introduced Saturday deliveries so that European businesses shipping with UPS can now deliver six days a week to their customers, allowing them to meet increased demand and ensure a positive delivery experience.”

There are over 17,000 UPS Access Point locations in the eight aforementioned markets in Europe. These locations are local businesses, such as neighborhood convenience stores with extended evening and weekend hours. This should give customers the flexibility to pick up parcels when it suits them.

Complements UPS Express Saturday delivery

The logistics company emphasizes that the new service will complement the existing UPS Express Saturday deliveries, which now benefit from a pre-noon delivery.

Recently, UPS has invested about 1.75 billion euros to enhance its network in Europe. As a result of this, businesses can now reach over 80 percent of Europe’s population within two business days.
