While B2B sellers are increasingly turning to ecommerce solutions, customers still encounter issues when trying to order online. At least 32 percent of B2B buyers said that finding products is the biggest online issue. A more personalized shopping experience could solve that issue.

During the first quarter of this year, 74 percent of Dutch consumers bought services or goods online. This is a decrease of 3 percent when compared to the same period a year earlier. Consumers also bought less physical than digital products online.

In 2021, MediaMarkt entered the top 3 German online stores with the highest turnover. In doing so, it pushed out Zalando. Amazon is still leading the ranking with 15.68 billion euros.

Consumers in Belgium spent 7.22 billion euros online in the first half of this year. This is a growth of 30 percent when compared to the same period a year ago. Ordering on a smartphone is becoming increasingly popular.

During the first half of 2022, consumers in the Netherlands spent 16.1 billion euros online. This is a 9 percent growth when compared to the same period a year earlier. The growth mostly stems from a rise in online sales of services.

The European online fashion retail market is set to grow 50 percent by 2025. The online turnover of this market will reach 175 billion euros, which equals 33 percent of the retail branch’s total. Cross-border marketplaces are the biggest drivers behind these growth.

Over half of online shoppers are prepared to wait longer for a parcel if it is from a sustainable shop. Still, only 1 in 5 customers are prepared to pay extra for eco-friendly delivery. Consumers are most worried about the environment when shopping for groceries and fashion.

Online B2B transactions in Poland are estimated to be worth 130 billion euros in 2021. This is an average year on year growth of 8.4 percent, when compared to the total market value in 2016 of 555.3 billion euros. Between 2016 and 2021, the market has grown 41.8 percent.

Last year, one out of four packages were returned in Germany. This comes to an estimate of 530 million parcels, with 1.3 billion items. Returning goods is part of consumer protection. On the other hand, the amount of returns brings high costs for sellers, as well as a large carbon footprint.

In online shops, 16 percent of products are out-of-stock. The United Kingdom and the Netherlands have the best product availability. Google Shopping, Facebook Product Ads and Amazon are the top three advertising channels for ecommerce sellers worldwide.

Even though the population in the Netherlands continues aging, retailers are hardly profiting from it. On the contrary, it will cost Dutch sellers 2 percent in revenue by 2032. Therefore merchants should focus more on the elderly, researchers say.

Spanish ecommerce was worth over 57.7 billion euros in 2021. This was a 11.7 percent growth when compared to a year earlier. A large part of this growth came from cross-border sales.

Dutch shoppers expect to buy more online in the next few years, in particular health, beauty and food products. For the first time, over half of consumers say they will buy more on their smartphone in 5 years.

At least four out of five Dutch elderly people regularly shop online. For most of them, convenience is the main reason to place online orders. However, the elderly often encounter obstacles. By making online stores more accessible, these obstacles are reduced.

Ecommerce turnover in Europe continued to grow in 2021. On the other hand, the number of online shoppers has dipped slightly last year. After a peak in ecommerce in 2020, growth is slowing down and stabilizing.
