Half a million new shoppers for Digitec Galaxus

Half a million new shoppers for Digitec Galaxus

Digitec Galaxus has had a strong year, with sales across its platforms up by 17 percent. This growth is partly driven by the addition of half a million new shoppers, bringing the total customer base to around 5 million. The Swiss ecommerce giant also outperformed the market in EU countries.

Digitec Galaxus is a company group from Switzerland. It consists of Digitec, an online store specializing in IT and electronics, and Galaxus, an online department store. Total platform sales at Digitec Galaxus exceeded the (converted) 4 billion euros mark for the first time, reaching 4.023 billion euros.

This represents a 17 percent increase compared with the gross merchandise volume in 2024. The increase of nearly 600 million euros marks “the second-largest growth period” in the company’s history. Only during the Covid period did sales grow faster.

‘Pretty much everything’

Not only did the number of Digitec Galaxus customers grow strongly, the assortment also expanded significantly over the past year, reaching more than 10 million products in total, up from 8 million at the end of 2024 and just 3 million at the end of 2020. “The marketplace is making a strong contribution to this growth”, CEO Florian Teuteberg emphasizes. “Evidently, we are increasingly living up to our promise of having pretty much everything.”

Galaxus and Digitec

With Galaxus and Digitec, the group owns two of the three largest players in Swiss ecommerce. Combined, the platforms are larger than Zalando, which competes with Galaxus.ch for market leadership. Amazon, the clear market leader in neighbouring countries such as Germany, France and Italy, follows at some distance. Digitec Galaxus’ revenue grew slightly less strongly than its sales volume, rising by 14 percent to just over 3.5 billion euros.

Galaxus in the EU

Outside Switzerland, revenue also increased by 14 percent, in line with platform sales growth in Germany, Austria, Italy, France, the Netherlands and Belgium. Combined, these markets generated 412 million euros in platform sales, meaning the international impact remains relatively limited. This is comparable to Allegro, the local hero from Poland, which has been pushing somewhat harder internationally.

Digitec Galaxus is growing faster in Switzerland (17 percent, as mentioned) than abroad (14 percent). EU sales grew by 27 percent in 2024, meaning the growth rate has since slowed.

Digitec Galaxus’ European growth rate is slowing

Commenting on the company’s performance in the EU, Teuteberg says: “We have shifted the pendulum slightly towards profitability and invested less in marketing. Nevertheless, we have grown significantly, so we are very satisfied.”
