Before Ecommerce News, Pleuni studied Psychology and obtained a Master’s degree in Gender Studies. After that, she started out as a freelance writer but soon noticed that she wanted to work with colleagues. Then she found Ecommerce News, where she has been working ever since. Shopify shuts down Exchange Marketplace

Leading ecommerce platform Shopify has shut down its Exchange Marketplace on November 1^st. Merchants who want to sell their Shopify store will now have to use other marketplaces. The app, data and listings have all been deleted and are no longer accessible to merchants.

Zalando now has over 50 million active customers

Online fashion giant Zalando has exceeded 50 million active customers for the first time. Its active customer base grew with 8 percent when compared to a year ago. Additionally, its loyalty program called Plus almost tripled its membership.

Made.com prepares for insolvency

Online furniture retailer Made.com has announced that it is appointing administrators. The company is thus preparing for insolvency, as it was unable to be sold by the end of October. Earlier this week, it also suspended its trades.

Lemonero launches in the Netherlands

Ecommerce lending startup Lemonero is launching its platform in the Netherlands. It is the second expansion after a launch in Central and Eastern Europe last year. It already announced plans to expand into the DACH region, next year.

PostNL opens up lockers to other carriers

Dutch logistics company PostNL is opening up its network of parcel lockers to other carriers in 2023. Additionally, the company will expand its network of 400 parcel lockers to 1,500 lockers by 2024 across the country. The move will make it easier for consumers to receive and send parcels.

Perfume’s Club launches marketplace

Spanish online beauty product store Perfume’s Club is turning its platform into a marketplace. By the end of this year, it wants to incorporate 200,000 products from suppliers and brands. The marketplace is only available in Spain, but will be expanded to other markets.

55% of Germans base purchase decision on reviews

When making a purchase decision, at least 55 percent of Germans find reviews of a shop or product important. However, fake reviews are a common problem in ecommerce. As a result, 74 percent of Germans want reviews to have a label of authenticity.

Bijenkorf.be wins BeCommerce Award

In the seventeenth edition of the BeCommerce Awards, Bijenkorf.be was awarded with The Becommerce Award. It can now call itself the best Belgian online store for a year. It competed with four other nominees for this title.

2022: 74% Dutch consumers buy online

During the first quarter of this year, 74 percent of Dutch consumers bought services or goods online. This is a decrease of 3 percent when compared to the same period a year earlier. Consumers also bought less physical than digital products online.

MediaMarkt enters German top 3 online stores

In 2021, MediaMarkt entered the top 3 German online stores with the highest turnover. In doing so, it pushed out Zalando. Amazon is still leading the ranking with 15.68 billion euros.

BeCommerce: ‘Belgian ecommerce needs support’

Last year, Belgian trade association BeCommerce launched a project called Ezyshop. At least 2,140 companies signed up to receive individual coaching sessions. According to the organization, Belgian retailers need extra support and the government should help.

Huboo and Mirakl announce partnership

Amazon to invest over €1 billion in zero-emission fleet

Ecommerce giant Amazon has announced that it will invest more than 1 billion euros up until 2027 to decarbonize its transportation network in Europe. The company will add electric delivery vans and electric heavy goods vehicles to its network. It wants to become net-zero carbon by 2040.

Zalando partners with Nike

Ecommerce fashion giant Zalando is expanding its partnership with fashion brand Nike. Customers get access to Nike Member exclusive products, as well as more connected inventory and new digital experiences. It is the first time for Nike to partner with European platforms.
