A new study has found that 40 percent of ecommerce websites in the United Kingdom have experienced some downtime during Easter and other seasonal peak periods. Also, almost half of online retailers didn't feel completely ready for seasonal peaks in website traffic.

Foreign ecommerce websites are popular among online consumers in Sweden. But online shoppers also rely on local companies, such as IKEA, Netonnet and Elgiganten. The most popular online store in Sweden however, is a foreign ecommerce website.

Ecommerce in Turkey was worth 30.8 billion Turkish Liras (or 7.95 billion euros) in 2016. The online retail industry in this country is becoming more and more mature. The ecommerce share in Turkey's total retail was 1.7 percent in 2012, but it increased to 3.5 percent last year, a new study shows.

Last year, ecommerce in the Netherlands was worth 20.16 billion euros. This corresponds with an increase of 23 percent compared to the situation in 2015. The Dutch especially love to buy shoes and lifestyle products online, as well as IT and (near)food products.

HelloFresh ranked first in a list of Europe's fastest-growing companies. The Financial Times looked at companies in Europe that have achieved the highest percentage growth in revenues between 2012 and 2015. HelloFresh saw its revenue increase by 13,159 percent during that period.

In both Slovenia and Croatia, there's been a highly increased frequency of online shopping. Currently, 9 out of 10 internet users in these countries have experience with online shopping. Of course, there are also many differences between Slovenia and Croatia, for example in terms of trust in foreign ecommerce platforms.

More and more Spanish consumers are purchasing toys via the internet, as the online sales of toys in Spain has increased by almost 60 percent last year. In this industry, ecommerce shows a significant higher growth rate than the physical retail.

Otto Group saw its revenue increase by 5 percent and once again ecommerce was the growth driver for the international retail and services group. Online sales increased by just under 10 percent and was worth almost 7 billion euros last year.

The ecommerce industry in Russia was worth 920 billion rubles, which is about 14.85 billion euros, in 2016. This is an increase of 20 percent when compared to the year before. Estimates are ecommerce in Russia will reach 1 trillion rubles (16.14 billion euros) at the end of this year.

Ecommerce in Belgium was worth 9.1 billion euros in 2016. Last year, consumers spent 10 percent more on products and services online than they did in 2015. The online share of total retail has increased from 14 to 16 percent.

The ecommerce industry in the Nordic region was worth 21.9 billion euros in 2016. The biggest share of online retail revenue in this region comes from Sweden, which generated 8.5 billion euros last year. But Norwegians scored the highest monthly amount spent per person.

Consumers in Switzerland are shopping more and more products from foreign ecommerce websites. Last year, the total value of online purchases Swiss consumers made abroad was worth 1.3 billion Swiss Francs, which corresponds to 1.22 billion euros. That's an increase of 18 percent compared to last year.

After major investor Kinnevik sold half of its stake in Rocket Internet, shares in the German ecommerce company fell 14 percent on Thursday. The day before, the Swedish investor sold a 6.6 percent stake in Rocket Internet.

The Otto Group will raise its ecommerce revenues to almost 7 billion euros in the current financial year. The online retail and services business of the German company grew 615 million euros, which corresponds to a 10 percent growth.

The ecommerce industry in Italy was worth 19.6 billion euros in 2016. Last year, the industry registered an increase of 18 percent compared to the situation in 2015. Most of the online retail turnover in Italy was generated by services sold online.
