Amazon, Otto and Zalando dominate the online retail industry of Germany. Together, these three companies account for about 44 percent of total sales from the top 100 ecommerce players in Germany.

Ecommerce in Portugal is estimated to increase by  over 12 percent this year, so total online sales of goods and services in the Southern European country could be worth 4.73 billion euros at the end of this year. That's a nice growth compared to the 10.52 percent increase of last year.

Ecommerce in Belgium was worth 4.9 billion euros during the first six months of this year and the prediction is the online retail industry will surpass the 10 billion euros mark for the first time ever at the end of this year.

Ecommerce in Denmark is estimated to be worth 15.5 billion euros in 2017. If this prediction comes true, it would mean the B2C ecommerce turnover in this Northern European country increases by 15 percent compared to last year.

Ecommerce in Italy is predicted to be worth 22.4 billion euros at the end of 2017. This would mean an increase of 14 percent compared to the situation last year. This also means ecommerce in Italy is growing slower than it did the last two years.

Ecommerce in Sweden continues to grow on almost all fronts. This year, it's expected the online industry will be worth 109.5 billion Swedish kronor, or 11.5 billion euros. This would be an increase of 9 percent compared to last year.

The ecommerce turnover in Spain was worth 23.91 billion euros in 2016, an increase of over 15 percent compared to the year before. This year, it's expected ecommerce in Spain will grow 17 percent to reach almost 28 billion euros at the end of 2017.

When an online basket was filled with 39 popular summer products in six countries across Europe, the ecommerce industry in France happened to have the highest prices. This 'summer basket' however is most expensive for consumers in Spain, as they have the lowest gross domestic product per capita among these countries.

Ecommerce in Western Europe will account for 13.9 percent of total retail sales by 2022. With groceries not included, online retail sales in Western Europe will even make up 20 percent of total retail sales in this region.

Deutsche Post DHL Group saw its revenue increase by 4.4 percent to 14.8 billion euros during the second quarter of this year. It's mostly the company's international parcel and ecommerce business that drove this strong growth.

Ecommerce in the United Kingdom grew 17.8 percent last year, and was worth 174 billion euros. The growth rate is the same as in 2013, while in the last two years the growth rate was much lower. Last year, 82 percent of internet users in the UK shopped online.

Last year, German consumers spent 3.7 billion euros on furniture and houseware online. This is an increase of 9.6 percent compared to the situation in 2015. Germany is one of the largest online furniture markets in the world and is expected to grow 10 percent annually for the next five years. The largest online furniture retailers in Germany have a total turnover of over 1.4 billion euros.

Ecommerce in Hungary was worth 427 billion Hungarian forints, or 1.38 billion euros in 2016. The online retail industry in this Eastern European country now accounts for over 5 percent of total domestic retail sales. In Hungary, more people are shopping online while the average basket value also increases.

Ecommerce in Europe is growing exponentially, especially in the southern countries. The online retail industry in Europe is expected to be worth around 602 billion euros at the end of this year, which would mean ecommerce in Europe will grow 14 percent compared to the situation in 2016.

Some online stores tend to adjust their prices, so consumers won't go ordering something at a competitor's website.
